2010 Thanksgiving News

Posted by rwebster  Published in Uncategorized

All,

Been a while since I have sent information but have big news forthcoming.  Just finished the 3rd Annual Vets-N-Vettes event and will have pics on the site soon.  Just to let you know that a new event is being launched in association with the POW Website.  It will be the Wounded Warrior AirLift and will have information out to you as it comes in.  Be on the lookout for an update of this sight, link to the new event site and how you can assist.  I will also have everything linked together with facebook and twitter so that you can receive instant updates.  As always, thanks for all your help and support.

Cheers,

Bull

The New Frame

Posted by rwebster  Published in Uncategorized

If you think this one was bad, wait until you see the original. The new frame was blasted, grinded and sealed, then she was sprayed with several quality coats of pure aluminum. Underneath the car we took Chevrolet’s original color combination and flipped the colors. I would like to thank Mr Miller and Miller’s Collision Center for double checking the dimensions of the frame. Actually if it had not been for them, the rear would have been slightly out of WHACK. I will go through and add some more info besides the pictures, but I invested close to 150 hours alone on this frame to make it stand out.

Other thanks go out to Pattie and the whole Team from VETTE BRAKES AND PRODUCTS. They held my hand through mock up an rebuild that took February and March of this year.

Fall 2007 Body Breakdown

Fall 2007 Body Breakdown

This was the initial tear-down of the car that was started mid summer of 2007. We new the frame was soft at the right rear corner, so we knew that this would be a complete frame off restoration. What we did not figure on was finding rust throughout the Birdcage which would require not only the frame off restoration but complete tear-down of the whole car. In the following photos you can see how the rust moved throughout the car like a cancer.

Original Car

Posted by rwebster  Published in Uncategorized

This is the original 1980 corvette from around 2001. The car was definitely a 15-footer, but still it is a corvette!

In the beginning

Posted by rwebster  Published in Uncategorized
On 12 February 1973 all eyes were riveted on Gia Lam Airport, North Vietnam. The world was waiting to catch the first glimpse of American POW’s being released from their North Vietnamese captors. A C-141 Starlifter with the tail number of 60177 (which later became known as the Hanoi Taxi) was also sitting on the ramp waiting to bring these heroes home. In 2006 this chapter was closed for many of those originally manifested on the Freedom Birds. The members of the 445AW along with the Hanoi Taxi recreated this historic day by giving these American heroes one last flight before it was retired from service.

In 2008 with the Hanoi Taxi displayed outside of the National Museum of the Air Force, we have decided to honor these American heros with the 35 Anniversary Corvette. This car will display the legacy of both the POWs and the Aircraft that brought them home. We will use this car to honor all of our Service members who have served this wonderful country. We will create a photo display around the car. We are requesting photos from service members in their uniform alongside their corvette. These photos will become a permanent part of the display.
